Admission Criteria

  • No GRE scores are required.
  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 is required for full admission to the program, and 2.75 is required for conditional admission. All GPA calculations for admission may be based upon the last 60 credits of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate study. See graduate admissions policies for more information.
  • Transcript analysis (see below for more information):
    • One-Year: A maximum of two content course classes may be pending when MAT courses start.
    • Part-Time: Uncompleted content course work may be pending when MAT courses start. Part-Time students have seven years to complete the program from the first term of coursework.

Application Requirements

Submit an online application, application fee and official transcripts, along with:

  • Letters of Recommendation: Two professional letters of recommendation from professors, employers, or supervisors from volunteer work (email address of recommenders must be entered on the application) are required.
  • Statement of Purpose: A one to two-page statement of purpose about your reasons for entering the teaching profession.
  • Resume: A current professional resume.
  • Transcript Analysis:

    Requesting a transcript analysis is the first step in the application process. We recommend requesting the transcript analysis one or two terms prior to starting the MAT program. The transcript analysis will identify any content course work in your intended licensure area that may be required in addition to MAT program course work.     Once we review your Transcript Analysis request, we will share tailored information about the MAT program you are interested in and the next steps in the application process.

    Applicants will receive written notification of transcript analysis results via email. Any missing content area coursework required for the program will be identified.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

U.S. Immigration requires F1 and J1 students to be enrolled full-time with the majority of their classes taken in-person and on campus.
